Summer Institute

On the first day of the Summer Institute, I made a friend who played soccer on Neil Middle School's soccer team. My school played their school and Michael remembered me playing them. Michael and I became very good friends. On the first day I played basketball with a whole bunch of other guys. It was very fun even though it was 95 degrees that day.

On the 23rd, the first year students went to the Ropes Course. I really enjoyed my time there. The most exciting part of the day was when I got a ride on the Flying Spuirrel. The experience is too fun to describe. The maze was also very fun. I couldn't see where I was going because there was a scarf tied over my eyes. I was still the second person to get out of the maze. During the field trip, I learned how teamwork can really help get things done better. Not everything can be done faster with teamwork but it does make work a whole lot fun. I can't wait until next year to take this field trip again.

The field trip that the first year students took to the UNC Hospital seemed very interesting to me. I got to meet a brain surgeon there. I learned how radiation is zapped at a brain tumor. I also learned what it takes to become a brain surgeon. I would say it takes half a person's life to become one. For some reason, I want to become a brain surgeon when I grow up.

I also went to the main library of Duke and Duke Gardens. I had a lot of fun walking around in the garden. There were some very nice flowers there. The library at Duke was huge and had over a million books. If I needed to find a book, I would need someone to help me.

SO FAR I AM HAVING A GREAT TIME!
