Review and Unit QuizMatter is composed of atoms but exactly how atoms, and the molecules that form from atoms, make matter determines whether the material of interest is a solid a liquid or a gas. The strength of the attractive forces between the atoms or molecules in the matter is a key factor in the state of the matter assumes. In a solid the intermolecular forces are very strong and prevent all but vibrational movement of the molecules, leading to the rigid structure of ths phase of matter. In liquids, the intermolecular forces are substantial but still far reduced from the solid state. Gas molecules are nearly independant of one another. As a result gases expand to fill any empty space. Unit Quiz: You will now be presented with a five-question, multiple-choice quiz.
