The basic building blocks of all matter are the elements. Elements have recurring physical and chemical properties. The periodic table of the elements arranges all of the elements according to their atomic numbers and allow groupings of elements that behave similarly. Trends in atomic size and electronegativity are two properties that can be estimated from the relative position of an element in the periodic table.
