Welcome to the new NCSSM ELC Registration Site
The North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics has been hosting an annual conference focused on current issues in ethics and leadership since 1998. Hundreds of high school students attend the conference each year with their teachers or other adult chaperones.

The 2008 conference, Leadership: What Ethics has to Teach Us, will be held on Monday, October 27th at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, North Carolina.

The 2008 Keynote address will be given by Professor James Coleman of the Duke University School of Law.

The 2005 Ethics and Leadership Conference

Conference Format:

The conference agenda is designed so that schools within a 1 to 2 hour drive of Durham can board activity buses after their students arrive for class and get here in time to register; and they can leave in time to meet a school bus that will take them home. In recent years, however, students have attended the conference from as far away as Madison and Union Counties in the t, and Northampton and Pender Counties in the east. Box lunches can be and purchased in advance for the day of the conference.

Breakout sessions are designed to engage the conference participants in discussions that explore the ethical and leadership implications of current issues. Prior to the conference students choose the breakout session topics of interest to them. Reading assignments to prepare students for discussions will be provided by session leaders on this website. Session leaders include college faculty, high school and middle school teachers, and other Triangle Area professionals.
