Day One / Day Two / Pictures / Reflections
|
The day started off with Bob1(Dr. Robert Panoff) explaining some things about Shodor. He showed us a picture of many light bulbs on the ground, and out of all of them there was only one turned on. The picture was captioned: THERE ARE NO DUMB QUESTIONS, ONLY INQUISTIVE IDIOTS. Next he showed us a comic strip called "Pearls Before Swine" by Stephen Pastis. The comic strip showed a pig watching a nature show where a lion is chasing zebras. A zebra comes by and the pig tells him how the lion is outnumbered and can be easily defeated. The zebra's response was, "They're lousy at math." Bob1 used this to show that there are many more senior staff than us, 30 interns. Next we watched an example of Bob1 throwing two balls to test its elasticity. The answer ,surprisingly, was balls aren't elastic. We broke up in groups and we were then given problems to work on such as a problem where we try to take the most bananas across the desert. Later in the day, we played a get-to-know-you game. We each had to have a partner and we had to learn 5 weird things about each other. After that we went back inside for a few more talks about our time here at Shodor. |
