Simple Plot
Exploration Questions

  1. Collect data on the shoe size and height of the students. Let the shoe size be the x value and let the height be the y value. Plot those points with the simple plot applet. Discuss the pattern you see. Use this to introduce/enforce positive and negative correlations.

  2. Collect other data and determine if there is a relationship and if so is it positive or negative?

  3. Use this applet to introduce sequences. Have the students make tables of values using a starting number, a multiplier, and an add-on. Have them use the simple plot applet to plot the points.

  4. Have the students make tables of values using function rules. For example make a chart of values where the input is multiplied by 2. Use the simple plot applet to plot the points. What does the graph look like? Do this with several functions (multiply the input by itself, divide by 2, multiply by 3 and add one, take the absolute value of the input...)
