Introduction

You have been directed to this page because you are using Netscape Navigator on a Macintosh computer. To guarantee compatibility with the activities on Shodor's site (in addition to compatibility with other Java programs), you need to install some software on your PC.

Installing MRJ 2.1 or higher

MRJ (Macintosh Runtime for Java) allows you to run Java applications up to five times faster and features complete JDK 1.1.8 compatibility. Chances are, you are already running MRJ 2.1 or greater. To determine which version of MRJ you are running, you can use the Get Info command in the Finder to look at the version information of the MRJLib file. This file is located in the "MRJ Libraries" folder inside the "Extensions" folder inside your "System Folder." If the version is at least 2.1, everything is OK. If it is not (or if the file does not exist), you should install the latest version of MRJ, which can be downloaded from here.

Installing MRJ Plugin

After you have installed MRJ 2.1 or higher, you need to install the MRJ Plugin. This plugin allows Netscape 4.x to utilize the MRJ software, and was developed at Mozilla.org.

  1. Download the MRJ Plugin. Your browser should automatically unstuff the file "MRJPlugin.sit.hqx" as the folder "MRJPlugin."

  2. Open the "MRJPlugin" folder, and choose "as List" from the "View" menu in the Finder. You'll see the following items:

  3. Move the files "MRJ Plugin" and "MRJPlugin.jar" from the "Plugin for 4.X" folder to your browser's "Plug-ins" folder.

Verification of Installation

After you have installed MRJ 2.1+ and the MRJ Plugin, restart your computer. Your browser should now work with all Shodor activities. If you have any questions, please use this form.
