Triangle Explorer
Place in mathematics curriculum:
This activity can be used to:
- introduce the concept of area
- explore different types of triangles
- introduce problem solving strategies
This applet allows the user to study the nature of triangles and their area. This activity would work well in same ability groups of two or three for about twenty-five to thirty minutes if you use the
exploration questions and fifteen minutes otherwise.
Preparations for this activity:
- explain and give examples of right triangles
- explain and give examples of how to calculate the area of a right triangle
- explain and give examples of how to calculate the area of a triangle that is not a right triangle
