Circle Graph
Place in mathematics curriculum:
This activity can be used to:
- Illustrate percent and how percents should add to 100 to represent a whole
- Develop estimation skills
- Demonstrate the idea of a circle graph
- Give students practice in reading and drawing circle graphs
- Develop recognitions and understanding of data representations
This activity allows the user to graph data on a
circle graph. Students can use predefined data sets or enter their own data. This activity would work well in small groups of 3-4 for about 25-30 minutes if you use the
exploration questions and 15-20 minutes otherwise.
Preparations for this activity:
- Encourage students to enter in their own data, be ready to give them examples of data to enter
- Explain the relationship between circle graphs and percentages
- Discuss how graphs can be misleading
