Circle Graph

This activity can be used to:

• Illustrate percent and how percents should add to 100 to represent a whole
• Develop estimation skills
• Demonstrate the idea of a circle graph
• Give students practice in reading and drawing circle graphs
• Develop recognitions and understanding of data representations

This activity allows the user to graph data on a circle graph. Students can use predefined data sets or enter their own data. This activity would work well in small groups of 3-4 for about 25-30 minutes if you use the exploration questions and 15-20 minutes otherwise.

Preparations for this activity:

• Encourage students to enter in their own data, be ready to give them examples of data to enter
• Explain the relationship between circle graphs and percentages
• Discuss how graphs can be misleading
