Abstract
This workshop is designed to introduce participants to teaching about functions from a multirepresentational approach using tools from Shodor's Interactivate.
Objectives:
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will:
- Be able to distinguish between using a process and object approach to understanding functions and their representations
- Define "multi-representational" in regards to the teaching and learning of functions
- Develop at least two lessons or a lesson unit that integrates the use of a multi-representational approach to the teaching and learning of functions and that use one of the "Flyer" tools from Interactivate
- Read articles regarding the teaching and learning of functions using a multi-representational approach
- Become fluent in the use of the java applets Function Flyer and Data Flyer
- Be familiar with the navigation of the Interactivate website
- Be familiar with the navigation of the Math Tools website
- Post to the discussion forum of the Math Tools website
National Educator Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS-T):
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will have addressed all performance indicators from standards I, II, III, IV, and V of the NETS-T standards.
