Topic: Batteries and Electric Circuits
Time Duration: 2 hours and 30 minutes
Grades: 1-6th
This course introduces the student to batteries and basic electricity using Ohm's Law. The
course provides theory and hands-on instruction to enhance the student's comprehension. The
computational science element was provided using a DC circuit applet. The course stresses
the acquisition of data by engineers to attain best results for a solution. Students are
required to make a battery by selecting the best of two metals to use in the construction of
the battery. Digital voltmeters are used to measure the voltage of the various combinations
of metals used to construct the battery. Materials needed: Damp paper towel, various metal
objects, digital voltmeter, lemon, circuit applet.
