Topic: Understanding Graphs
Time Duration: 1 hour
Grades: K-7th
The Class began with the teacher and students constructing a vertical bar graph. The
instructor explained the concept of X and Y-axes. The bar graph represented the ages of the
different students. The class answered questions about the graph. The students had to answer
questions like, "who is the oldest, who is the youngest, and who is six years old?" Another
bar graph was constructed of the student's siblings. This graph was a double horizontal bar
graph. One bar on the graph represented the sister and the other represented the brother.
The students answered questions about the second graph. The students had to come up with a
title of this graph. The older students in the class helped the younger students learn
different kinds of graphs. The older students demonstrated graphs like line graphs, picture
graphs, and pie graphs. The class had a discussion about each graph that was illustrated.
