Date: 05/15/07
Topic for workshop: Fun With Science
Instructor: Lateasha Shirer
Number of Students: 8

1. Provide a brief overview of the workshop (i.e. purpose, activities and materials):
The workshop was created to have fun on the last day, but have fun in an educational way. We did science experiments and gravity exercises. There was no written work, but the students learned new things about gravity and their bodies.
2. Did the students engage the workshop and ask questions?
All the students participated in the science experiments. A few students asked questions about the science experiments
3. Did the students seem to learn and understand the material? For example, can the students explain what they learned?
The students learned more about sound vibrations. They were interested in comparing the sound bottles to how the earlobe works.
4. Is this material appropriate for the K-7 grade level? Is it more appropriate for K-3 or 4-7, and why?
This material is appropriate for both k-3 and 4-7 grades. The materials and activities are for all different kinds of grade levels.
5. How do the materials and activities apply to the science and math the students are currently learning?
The fun activities were science activities. The students did a sound vibration bottle and a wind mill.
6. Do you have any suggestions for improving the lesson plans or activities to be more appropriate/effective for this age group?
The windmill did not stay attached to the straw because the play dough kept coming off the stick pen.
7. Additional comments:
Try using beads to keep the stick pen in the straw.
