This applet allows you to explore experimental and theoretical probabilities by changing the area of the colored regions of the spinner. As you increase the number of spins, the experimental probability will approach the theoretical probability.

The spinner also helps to visually verify why the probability of the union of two mutually exclusive events is the sum of those probabilities.

Theoretical probability is the ratio of the number of outcomes in the event to the total number of outcomes in the sample space. Theoretical probability is refered to in the text as "Probability of an Event."
Experimental probability is the ratio of the number of actual outcomes in the event to the total number of trials run.*
