Rigid Motions and Similarity Transformations

Section 12-1

Lesson Name Lesson Description
Translations, Reflections, and Rotations Introduces students to the concepts of transformations.
Geometry in Tessellations Students learn about tessellations by studying which regular polygons can be transformed and still tesselate the plane.
Introduction to Fractals: Infinity, Self-Similarity and Recursion Introduces the concept of self-similarity used to develop the iterations of fractals. This lesson can be used to extend the concept of size transformations to self-similarity.
Geometric Fractals Outlines the approach to building fractals by cutting out portions of plane figures. Each portion removed is a size-transformation of all other portions removed. This lesson can be used to extend the concept of size transformations to self-similarity.
