Hodgkin-Huxley Equations

The equations used to model nerve action potentials in this interactive web page were developed by two men by the name of Hodgkin and Huxley. The basic principles of electronic circuits are the foundation upon which the Hodgkin-Huxley equations were developed. The major circuit laws that led to the formation of the equations include Ohm's Law, Faraday's Law and Kirchoff's Law.

Ohm's Law

The voltage drop across a resistor is proportional to the current thru the resistor.

Faraday's Law

The voltage drop across a capacitor is proportional to the electric charge.

Kirchoff's Law

The voltage supplied to a circuit has to equal the total voltage drops in the circuit.
